The second Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 was proclaimed in UN Resolution A/RES/74/299 on Improving Global Road Safety with a target to reduce road deaths and serious injuries by 50% by 2030.
The Decade of Action is underpinned by the Global Plan, which is the guide for governments to achieving the 2030 target.
The second Decade of Action and Global Plan will be launched on 28 October 2021 at an online event hosted by WHO.
The launch of the second Decade of Action and Global Plan is a significant advocacy opportunity for NGOs to engage their governments to implement evidence-based actions within the Global Plan to contribute to halving road deaths and serious injuries in their countries and to adopt the plan into new or existing national and provincial road safety strategies.
The Alliance will coordinate an activation that will support NGOs to:
Between the global launch on 28 October 2021 and December 2021, NGOs should work with their governments to arrange launch events for the plan, focusing on a handover of the Global Plan to a relevant decision maker.
The Alliance will be administrating a small grants round to help NGOs to work with their governments to organize public handover events of the Global Plan.
Supporting the push for stronger advocacy in the Decade of Action, the Alliance has gathered the experiences of Alliance NGOs through a survey and interviews undertaken between January and March 2021. These experiences have formed the basis for a new guide to be published by the Alliance on 29 September 2021 on Meaningful NGO Participation. The guide will provide advice and examples to enable NGOs to strengthen their engagement with their governments for more effective advocacy. Sign up for the launch event below.
