The next UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will be held from 9–18 July 2018. The theme of the 2018 HLPF is “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies” and will focus on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 6, 7, 11, 12, 15, and 17. This includes road safety SDG 11.2: “By 2030, provide access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all, improving road safety, notably by expanding public transport, with special attention to the needs of those in vulnerable situations, women, children, persons with disabilities and older persons.”
Alliance member Humanity & Inclusion will be holding a side event at the HLPF together with the Government of Belgium and the Government of Luxembourg. The event will be held on 10 July 2018 and will have the theme “Safer and inclusive roads and transport for cities that leave no one behind.”
48 countries will present Voluntary National Reviews of the targets above. FIA Foundation and Alliance members have been advocating with these governments to include SDG 11.2 in their review. FIA Foundation will also hold a side event on 13 July 2018 focusing on the Every Journey, Every Child campaign in the context of urban development.
