The Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety (the Alliance) celebrates not only its own recognition at the Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards but also the achievements of its member organizations that were honored for their exceptional contributions to road safety.
The Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards recognize innovative and impactful initiatives that advance road safety worldwide. This year, the awards highlighted the efforts of Alliance members in advocating for safer roads and sustainable transport solutions.
YOURS – Youth for Road Safety
Recognized for their dedication to empowering youth through road safety education, YOURS has been awarded for its project YOURS Academy, acknowledging the success in equipping young people with essential skills and knowledge through its creative and engaging platform.
Amend
This organization received the award for their Safe School Zones initiative, which uses evidence-based interventions to protect children from road traffic injuries around schools in high-risk areas. This year they won the award for their Safe Schools Africa project, effective and targeted technical assistance for road projects.
AIP Foundation
This year AIP Foundation won the prize for the AI&Me: Empowering Youth for Safer Roads program, which empowered youth to identify dangerous locations through an intuitive digital risk-perception tool and leveraged the power of Big Data to support governments in focusing life-saving road upgrades where young people have indicated they need it most.
ACM Moldova & EASST
Acknowledged for their road safety advocacy efforts, ACM Moldova has been instrumental in pushing for policy reforms and raising public awareness about traffic safety measures in the region. ACM have been presented with a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award in recognition of their outstanding success in achieving national acceptance of the importance of 30km/h speed limits around high-risk schools.
Recognized for their innovative approaches to safe patient transport, EASST Transport integrates road safety into healthcare logistics, ensuring that safety is prioritized at every stage of their operations.
Forum for Prevention of Road Accidents
This organization was awarded for their “Fit for Road Campaign”, an innovative effort to enhance health, safety, and well-being of tanker truck drivers transporting hazardous goods.
iRAP – International Road Assessment Programme
The International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP), together with the China Road Assessment Program (ChinaRAP) at the Research Institute of Highway, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Shaanxi Provincial Transport Department were awarded for the life-saving Shaanxi Mountain Road Safety Demonstration Project.
The Shaanxi Mountain Road Safety Demonstration Project has achieved remarkable road safety outcomes, with infrastructure upgrades on 850km of trunk and rural roads resulting in a 33% reduction in fatalities and a 53% decrease in injuries, saving an estimated 32 lives and 868 injuries annually. The percentage of the assessed roads meeting the global safety standard of 3-stars or better increased by 52%.
These awards exemplify the critical role NGOs play in road safety advocacy, using innovative and evidence-based solutions to drive impactful change. Lotte Brondum, Executive Director of the Alliance, remarked, “We are incredibly proud of our members whose efforts have been recognized with the Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards. Their work inspires us all and reminds us of the power of collaboration in achieving the global goal of halving road deaths and injuries by 2030.”
