Road Safety Education Programme In Schools
The Road Safety Education Pack is a global teaching resource that provides stimulating and engaging activities to introduce road safety messages and behaviours to kids. The pack has been developed by EASST as well as highly experienced UK road safety experts including the UK Government’s Think! Campaign. Transalted in Greek, the pack provides the resources you need to teach children and young people basic road safety principles in an age-appropriate way by using simple, fun, educational activities.
MRSH has been leading the South East Neighbourhood Safe Routes (SENSOR) project. The SENSOR trans-national collaboration i s the largest of its type in the world and the second largest single Road Assessment Programme. The project developed plans to eliminate high risk roads through (1) Risk Mapping of E-routes across SEE countries; (2) Star Rating of up to 16.000km of E-routes and major roads where deaths are concentrated, and (3) Development of “Bank ready” investment plans of high return, affordable and capable of being implemented as free-standing schemes, in maintenance programmes or rehabilitation schemes.
CRETE HELMET CAMPAIGN
A Crete Motorcycle Helmet Campaign was launched by Make Roads Safe Hellas and the FIA Foundation IN 2011 at a European Conference on “Greece and the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020”, held in Chania. In Greece, 30% of road casualties are motor cycle riders, but only 75% of riders and 46% of passengers wear helmets according to a 2009 survey. Moreover, many who do wear helmets do not strap them on properly. The new campaign aims to reduce road casualties by promoting proper helmet use –‘On the Head and Strapped On!’
The SENSOR trans-national collaboration is the largest of its type in the world and the second largest single programme. The collaboration spans 14 countries, two of which have already applied the new techniques and are implementing results. SENSOR inspected up to 15,000kms of priority routes including up to one-third of E-routes in participating countries. It will inspect safety for all types of road users including pedestrians and cyclists. MRSH was the lead partner of th eproject (2012-2015)
