Ndèye Awa Sarr is the founding member and current President of LASER International, a road safety nongovernmental organization (NGO) that aims to promote increased understanding of road safety and assist with the development of strategies, policies, and traffic safety programs in Senegal and surrounding countries.
Since 1998, Ms. Sarr has been a strong advocate for road safety. Through LASER International, Ms. Sarr encouraged Senegal to become a signatory to the Moscow Declaration developed at the First Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Moscow and played a lead role in the launch of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011–2020 in Senegal. She has presented at several road safety conferences and meetings around the world, including Centers for Disease Control,International Road Federation, Journées Francophones de la Sécurité Routière in France, Jacques Cartier road safety events, Prevention Routiere International, National Committee for Accident Prevention in Morocco, the First Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Moscow, and the Second Global High-Level Conference on Road Safety in Brasilia. In addition, she has organized five West African regional road safety forums since 2007.
Ms. Sarr has been an active proponent of the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety from the very beginning and currently sits on the Alliance Board of Directors.
Ms. Sarr graduated with qualifications in transport engineering from Paris University. Since 2007, she has been the Chief of Communication for the National Road Building Agency in Senegal and still holds that position.
