Alliance member Securoute, Cameroon, recently ran a drunk driving campaign that targeted truck drivers, taxi drivers, bus drivers and passengers, travel agency managers, and administrative authorities in the transport sector. The campaign aimed to educate drivers about the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption in general and especially when driving, and to educate passengers to convince drivers not to drink and drive. It also equipped public authorities and business leaders to address the risk of drunk driving.
Gathering at motor parks, truck loading points in urban and peri-urban areas, and taxi loading points, trained volunteers from local universities offered alcohol testing, talked with drivers, and handed out leaflets and stickers.
