Expression of Interest: Alliance-IMOB Hasselt University Safe System Approach short course

The Alliance in collaboration with the Transportation Research Institute (IMOB) from Hasselt University, Belgium is excited to announce a new capacity building opportunity for our member NGOs in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This initiative supports the Alliance Strategy to continuously build the capacity of our member NGOs through partnerships with expert organizations and professionals who can provide capacity building support.

This strategic partnership introduces an accredited short course, under the umbrella of the ICP-Connect 2022-2027 ProjectShort Training Programs for road safety NGOs. The purpose of this short course is to promote a mindset shift in how we see the road safety problem and thereby transforming the way we come up with solutions and equip road safety NGOs in LMICs to lead this approach as they influence their decision makers and communities, accelerating progress towards the achievement of SDG targets 3.6 and 11.2.

Strengthening NGO Advocacy for Safe and Sustainable Mobility through the Safe System Approach

Hasselt University and the Alliance have designed a short training course on Safe System Approach tailored for Alliance members operating in LMICs. This course combines the Alliance experience with grassroots NGOs and the expertise of Hasselt University in Transport Sciences,  offering a unique opportunity to understand and learn what it means to take a Safe System approach as you problem-solve the road safety issue in your respective countries.

The course facilitates participants to challenge the traditional approach to road safety, and learn the principles and practices of the Safe System Approach that puts people first and requires government and road safety professionals to accept the accountability to protect the road users instead of putting the onus onto the people to keep themselves safe.

The course also integrates the Alliance Accountability Toolkit and mobility snapshots to facilitate practical applications of the Safe System Approach in your daily advocacy work for safe and sustainable mobility.
