Maio Amarelo or Yellow May in English is organizing a road safety movement around the world next month and is inviting road safety organizations around the world to join them. Organizations in 23 countries around the world have already signed up.
The theme of the movement in 2017 is “My Choice Makes a Difference”. It focuses around the choices that drivers and passengers make every day such as whether to wear a seat belt, to speed, to drink alcohol, or to take a call on their mobile phone.
The concept of Yellow May came from inspiration from other Movements such as “Pink October” and “Blue November” that raise awareness for cancer. The adoption of the yellow ribbon as the symbol of the Movement comes from the need to see traffic accidents as a true epidemic situation and, consequently, encourage every citizen to adopt preventive behaviors.
