As the leading voice for civil society on road safety and with the main purpose of creating a significant demand for safe roads, we will convene our members and road safety community for an NGO symposium on 17 February 2025 in Marrakech, Morocco, addressing the most urgent and critical issues that the road safety community face.
The symposium takes place in the immediate lead up to the Ministerial Meeting on Road Safety, and thereby sets the stage for specific outcomes and commitments.
The NGO symposium will take the shape of three interconnecting sessions: practical workshops that showcase the practices we know will save lives, a symposium that focuses on investment in evidence-based interventions, and a street-activation that calls for action and demonstrates that every life matters and that no one should die in a crash.
All these will culminate in a civil society call to action.

This session will examine what makes a commitment actionable through the lens of the roles of different stakeholders.
Part one: case studies
Part two: panel discussion
Each panelist presents a successful action that contributes toward a road safety commitment. The moderator questions panelists to reflect on the case studies and on how they see the role of their sector and what actions from other sectors would enable them to achieve their role more effectively. Time allowing, the panel will be opened to questions from the floor.
10:45–11:05 Coffee break
11:05–12:15 Session two: Financing commitments
Panel discussion
One of the biggest hurdles to achieving commitment and action is how it can be financed. This session will explore top down and bottom up approaches to financing. An NGO moderator sets the stage and how lack of finance and lack of understanding about the cost benefit of road safety is hindering delivery of commitments. Moderator offers each panelist the opportunity to share a solution that could unlock financing for road safety, leading into discussion among panelists. Time allowing, the panel will be opened to questions from the floor.
